Shirley Fitzgerald, BA Hons, PhD, Dip T.
I am a graduate of the University of Adelaide and Macquarie University where I developped a lifelong interest in the history of Sydney. Until 2009 I worked for many years as the City Historian for the City of Sydney, delivering a program connecting the community to their history using diverse formats from radio chats to formal lectures. My historical research appears in a broad range of products from pamphlets and footpath installations, exhibitions and film to academic papers and published books. I have taught in NSW schools, lectured at the University of New England, Armidale NSW and established the inaugural Master of Letters degree in Public History at the University of Sydney.
I have held a number of professional positions, including President of the History Council of NSW, 1996-99 and Chair of State Records NSW, 2001-2007. I was the inaugual Chair of the Dictionary of Sydney Trust and I continue to be involved in this exciting project. I am currently Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Technology, Sydney. If you want to know more, go to the full CV on this site.
